NPAINOAHWAA_modified landscapes
Dennis Schiaroli

NPAINOAHWAA_modified landscapes investigates how coastal erosion - partially due to illegal ‘sand mining’- contributes to social and economical problems of seaside communities, as well as the environmental impact on them. The mapping process allows for a more in-depth understanding of how ‘sand mining’ functions, zooming from a macro- to micro-scale. It is the repetition of human activity, struggling for survival in a fast-growing economy, that creates a loop in which action is followed by destruction. This evokes an endlessly continuing dysfunctional cycle.
