Nubuke Wa

THE NUBUKE NETWORK
[A]FA

Nubuke Foundation's directors Odile Tevie and Kofi Setordji gave [A]FA the task of coming up with a proposal to better embed both Nubuke's built structures and the land in Wa into their environmental and cultural contexts, both spatially and programmatically. In parallel to individual mapping projects that investigated vernacular compound architecture, the working processes of weavers, and the characteristics of textiles and plants in the region, the team designed THE NUBUKE NETWORK. The aim behind this site plan proposal is to generate shaded outdoor spaces and a network of pathways that allow weavers, textile designers, and potters to display their products and organize festivals and/or market formats in a flexible manner, which would attract visitors and customers from both near and far. The proposal is also an answer to Nubuke's mission to attract these visitors and customers by generating a more inviting environment, which refers to the vegetation and trees on site, but also to the organic language of the traditional earth architecture in the region.
